Benefits of Yoga

Yoga is an ancient way of life that has many benefits, for mind, body, and soul. Whether you want to build strength (mind or body!), or just learn to relax a little, yoga is perfect for everyone. Kids love yoga, and women and men alike enjoy the benefits on a daily basis.

Yoga has many benefits: it improves posture, flexibility, and balance. Yoga boosts immunity, protects your spine, releases tension, and helps you achieve a deeper sleep.

The Many Benefits of Yoga

Improves digestion. Stress can negatively affect digestion. IBS is known to be triggered by stress, too. There are great yoga poses to improve digestion.

Relieves stress. Combining stretching, controlled breathing, and relaxation techniques, yoga helps reduce anxiety and relieve stress. This is beneficial for everyone, and can be especially beneficial for teens.

Improves brain function. Because yoga helps improve focus and concentration, it’s the perfect thing to try before taking a test, or doing anything else that might require a little extra brain power. Some studies say 20 minutes of yoga improves brain function immediately.

Fights migraines. While you probably don’t feel like doing yoga when you have a migraine, laying on your back with your knees bent in the Bridge Pose is close to just laying down, right? Plus, it helps ease migraine symptoms, so it’s worth a shot. Focus on deep breathing and pressing into your legs while you draw your hips to the sky.

Helps with weight loss. Weight loss is calories in, calories out, but if you build muscles, you lose that weight even faster. Regular yoga can help you accomplish mindful eating, which means you’ll save lots of calories from stopping mindless binge eating in front of the television.

Power yoga increases endurance, flexibility, energy, and strength, and helps build muscle throughout your entire body. Muscle is built while your mind and body work together to strengthen each other.

    Yes yes yes! Yoga is amazing!! I was so skeptical because I am not flexible and not coordinated!! But it was really awesome!! So relaxing and yet still working every muscle!

      That is where I am at Jeanine! I’ve had back injury which I’ve just been ok’d for yoga and water aerobics.

    I keep telling myself that I’m going to begin yoga for my overall health. I had no idea that it helps migraines-something I get a lot of. Improving digestion and brain function are also things I never associated with yoga. I’m definitely starting right away!

    I have taken yoga classes and I loved it! My daughter took it as a college class and continued after. Yoga is a definite stress reliever and the stretches feel so good.

    I need to do yoga for all of its health benefits. I used to do it a long time ago, and I think it is the perfect exercise too do when getting older. I will have to start doing it again!!
